A Little Bit of Sanity and A Lot of Chaos: Mom Ramblings #12

Mom Ramblings #12

I had a furniture post scheduled today, but I had a No-nap Monday incident that must be addressed. So, you'll just have to wait to see the transformation of a sideboard...

1. Nap-time at our house is mommy-time. You know, projects, laundry, shower (didn't happen...rarely does. Sorry to my friends that hang out with me), curling up with a good book (just bought 'the short second life of bree tanner')...today, I tried. But while I tried to do some laundry, fix the car before we sell it, paint a couple of chairs I got at a flea market for five bucks each, and some other random things the boys decided to do this to each other:

Don't they look fantastic! They said they were wrestlers and had to draw all over each other. I guess they needed a black pen for that. They also took hair goop and rubbed it all over their window and opened our "black box" full of all of our important papers dumped them out and filled the box full of water that was in the guest room (from when my Dad was here, for his CPAP machine, I know, TMI, but people would wonder why I had water in the guest room!). I usually try and laugh this stuff off, but bad mom came out. I yelled. It happens. All good now. I'm pretty sure I had a vein burst in my temple and dragon lady came out. Needless to say they got consequences...their brand spankin' new scooters that they were rewarded for filling up their marble jar with good behavior....gone....until Sunday....it actually made me sad to take them away...

2. The other day in Target the boys were fighting and I made them walk around Target holding hands. They were not impressed. In fact, Porter was mortified. It was awesome. I giggle thinking about it. Tom made them do it yesterday, it worked like a charm. They stopped fighting and worked it out.

3. I need this dress... All the problems of the world will go away if I have this dress...

4. Training for the Chicago Marathon started today. Today is a rest day! Yippee. What a way to start my training. Sure wish my knee was better. I'm frustrated and angry at my old lady body.

5. This would also make the entire world a happier place...in my world anyway....cause it's all about me, remember?!

I had to chuckle at your "remedy" to stop the boys from fighting. It brought back memories of my child-rearing years. (my baby is 17!)

My son and daughter used to bicker and fight quite a bit...my husband (a loving, crazy, funny dad) decided to duct-tape their arms together and made them sit on the loveseat until they could get along. It was so ridiculous they ended up laughing and we never had to worry about them pushing it too far again.

My mom used to make my sister and I sit on the couch holding hands when we fought. (TV off.) It always worked!

Oh dont you just love when they decide to use their body as a canvas? I frequently find my youngest with art all over him, usually created by his older sister.

Good luck with the marathon training! I am jealous. I have been having a hard time getting motivated to run more than 5 or 6 miles lately, I need some accountability I think.

Oh Kristi! I've been there!!!
(With the burst vessels in the face, too-)
The first picture, I thought-not bad...but the second one, and third one had me gasping outloud!!!
Poor you-

Love the holding hand technique-tried, and true-Love that!

As my two older boys got bigger, the hand holding turned into "serving" each other for the week-like making each others beds, and making their brothers lunch how he liked it for school...just an idea to add to the list... :)
You are doing a good job!!! Pat yourself on the back from me!

I've been following your blog for some time now. I love your creativeness! I, also, have 3 boys who are now 14,13,and 7. Been there, girl! MANY times. Reading about your boys takes me back to when mine were that age. It was also about the time my gray hairs started appearing. lol The one piece of advice I give ANYONE who has 2 or more little boys- when you hear one of them say, "Hey...watch this!"- you'd better RUN! Don't walk, because something is about to happen...and it's not usually a good thing! Thanks for the memories!

Oooo, I am using that hand holding idea! My boys seem to always bicker and then just has fast, try to outdo each other. Yesterday, the 6yo lopped off a chunk of his hair with (kid) scissors- so the 4yo has to do it. Now I have 2 boys with big patches of missing hair smack in the middle of their foreheads!

Then, I see that the 4yo has put gum in his hair!!! Nothing a little olive oil can't fix! Thanks for the funny story, I know I'm not alone in my crazy boy raising days!!!

When I just had two, now four, I caught my twins swinging from the chandelier literally. Your days sound like mine. Hang in there and get that dress.

Oh man, those moments SUCK. I remember when my daughters sharpied all over their faces because they had watched the animated Peter Pan. That was fun.

And as for the yelling thing, eh, it happens...forgive yourself like you'd forgive your sons and be proud of yourself for calming down! But then again, i've been dragon lady all day...after 3 days of pukey sick me, kids, hubby i'm pretty much just done, you know? Like, actually, literally crying over spilled milk level emotional wreck :)
