A Little Bit of Sanity and A Lot of Chaos: Kitchen Island

Kitchen Island

I've wanted a kitchen island since we moved in. Although I didn't know if it would work for the space. I thought about several furniture looking pieces but those cost a crap load of money. So, we haven't had one. But then I saw a dresser used as an island over at From House to Home and I knew that I had to immediately find my very own island dresser and completely steal Michelle's idea. (Thank you, Michelle!) I figured it would take me some time to look around and find the perfect dresser. Well, apparently someone really wanted me to have an island because I found it the same day I found the ninety-nine cent chair. For only Eighteen dollars.

Now, I know that this isn't a necessity in life. It really isn't. But, I have to tell you, it was so handy having this thing in the kitchen while we were preparing Christmas dinner. It made it very easy to cook and prepare with extra counter space.

The idea is to sand it, paint it, beadboard wallpaper on the back, and then a butcher block top from IKEA. I can't wait to tackle it! Oddly enough, the drawer pulls match the little table I did as well.

And, Tom likes it. I know he does. I was talking to his mom about what I thought we could do with the top, and when he came home and started setting things on it, he said THE EXACT SAME THING about the butcher block top. EXACTLY. It was unbelievable.

So excited!

Thank you for the mention. :) It's going to look great! Love the idea of the butcher block top. We were originally going to do a new top on it and looked at some options. Home Depot sells a sheet of oak for around $45. We thought of doing that with a small trim around the edges. Just to give you another (even cheaper) option. Whatever you do will look great, can't wait to see it.

Good morning. Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. I have enjoyed looking through yours this morning. :)
Your dresser is going to make a perfect island! A butcher block top is a great idea. And you can get it for real cheap at Lumber Liquidators. I think we figured we could do all of our kitchen counters in butcher block for less than a thousand.
Hope you have a great day, and Happy New Year! Beth.
