A Little Bit of Sanity and A Lot of Chaos: Never. Again. Will. I. Paint.The.Foyer.

Never. Again. Will. I. Paint.The.Foyer.

Hubs hates to paint. So, do you know what I asked him to do on Friday night? Duh.

Well, actually, I didn't ask him, I just started doing it, and he felt guilty enough to help. It's really his own fault.

This was not fun. I've noticed that when I start a project and he doesn't want to do it, we barely talk through the entire thing. So, for two hours we were painting in silence. Seriously. Sometimes when we do projects that need to get done but nobody really wants to do them, one of is on the receiving end of the silent treatment. I know! Can you hardly believe it? The reality is sometimes we argue. There. It's out there. IT HAPPENS!

Here's the final foyer and upstairs. Oh my goodness now the trim totally needs to be painted. Just a few more days of pushing the right buttons on Mr. Don't-touch-the-oak-because-white-is-only-cool-right-now and I'll be painting the trim. Just don't pay attention to that previous post about how I embrace the oak. Neveryoumind.
Doesn't it look dreamy?! It's Behr Antique White in Eggshell. I LOVE IT. Sara at Russet Street Reno used it too. And she's one of my renovation heroes, so I was quite thrilled when she said she used it too! Have you seen her floors? Oh my. And her closet? Wowzer.

Here's my unwilling and protesting, but very handsome and handy hubby helper.
Boy, he's cute.
Look at that tush. No don't! Stop looking at my husband's rear end.

The foyer looks nearly perfect. He helped me with the first coat, then I finished the second on No-nap Monday, but I couldn't figure out how to get to that little corner over the landing. I tried the ladder, the extension rod, the flat thing with the rollers that goes along the ceiling, all to no avail. Any suggestions....besides hiring a pro?

See...I used that flat roller thingy and the previous painters painted a tiny bit on the ceiling and you can see the mustard color. Oh the sheer horror. Whatever will I do? Nevermind everyone suffering in the world - help me!

Okay, here's a before. It's not great. But you can see the yellow. Now quickly look at the next photo....
(Dear ottoman, please come home. We miss you....nevermind that I sold you. You don't belong with that woman that bought all of my refurbished furniture....)

Moving on.

Brighter. More open. Less old smelly hospital, more bright welcoming home.

Stop going back to the photo of my hubby's tush.

I must say that I glanced. But only because you told me to! :o) Nah, I got the real tush to look at right here, so I am good. That is neither here nor there. The foyer looks great! (And I am more of a painted trim gal too).

I think your hubby might be my hubby's long long younger brother!! He'll do the same, join in when I start painting but then pouts and gets silent. Oh well, I just hum a little tune in my head...the paintings getting done, the paintings getting done...But I still haven't gotten my foyer, stairwell really, done yet. You did yours w/o an extension ladder? That's the only way I can think of to get up there. I had to paint part of my ceiling at my old house because they had painted it green!
Walls look fabulous! I see white trim paint on it's way!

Wow, what butt, I mean but what a beautiful job you did. I am the painter in the family too. Thank goodness our ceilings only go 10 foot at the most. I will look at those two story entry ways with great respect from now on. Paint/color change always amazes me how it can look so wonderful so fast. Great work!

Love the new color. Painting up high like that is horrid! I feel your pain, my house has a similar entry, and stairway with walls that go up to the second story. I would love to paint them again, but I don't think I have the guts to take it on. Cant wait to see the oak painted. Dont worry, tell your husband that if you want the oak look again, just sand off the paint. :-)

I started reading this post and was cracking up because you remind me a lot of ME- and I am HILARIOUS. No really, the whole painting thing with my husband (in silence) and the painting things white discussion...too funny

Funny! We had some silence here yesterday too. It didn't have anything to do with painting.

OK, I saw this once on a home show. Duct tape a narrow cutting brush to the end of the extension rod. Do it first without paint to see if it reaches. See if that works. Apparently it did on the show.

The color is truly warm and the white will be stunning!

I miss that ottoman too! *sigh*

Paint that oak! It will look amazing! When we moved in, I promptly painted over some unslightly heavy oak trim and it instantly lightened the space. Do it - you know you want to!

I love that you guys think I'm funny. That makes me laugh because hubs doesn't think I'm funny. Well, he probably does, he just doesn't tell me!

Moi? Your renovating hero? That is crazy and wonderful! I have several things to say about this post:
1. Your walls look great!
2. Your hubs better appreciate how much you love his butt
3. You're quite a funny chick!
4. To paint our 16 ft ceiling, we balanced the ladder on the stairs, then while on the ladder, I used a combo of a broom handle and roller. In your case, you may want to try the brush taped to the extension pole. Good luck!
