A Little Bit of Sanity and A Lot of Chaos: Kitchen Cabinets

Kitchen Cabinets

First and foremost, my BFF since the 8th grade turns twenty-two today.....okay, not 22. But, super close....33. It's okay, she's okay with it. And so, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the best friend a girl could ask for. Now. Move here. Today. Pack up your cute hubby and three adorable kiddos and move here. There's a house for sale, two doors down. Please?

Now, onto the kitchen cabinets.

Remember:

Wow. It seems so different than what it is today. I don't even remember that kitchen.

So I painted them.....

And I love them. Still do. But, we needed more work space, so I added this:

Hello! Amazing. We use it EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. I can't imagine our kitchen without it. But, I was feeling like the kitchen in all it's white was feeling...too...crisp....

So, the other day I did this:
BEFORE:

AFTER:

See it? See the difference in the two sides?

I think it warms it up just enough to not make it feel so....hospital and more....home....

Just enough distressing to give it that lived in look. Not so much that it looks trashy. I am in love all over again.

AND! Just wait until I add this to the backsplash:

I LOVE it! Showing me another reason why I NEED to paint mine. The island is so stunning, what a great idea.

Watching you is giving me courage to tackle.
Okay, I'll be honest. I haven't tackled anything yet, but you've got me headed in the right direction. I now believe I can do it.

It looks great! I love the distressed finish on the cabinets. It was beautiful before, but distressing just gives it that little extra "somethin" doesn't it? Love the contrasting black island too! So tell us, was painting the cabinets hard? How long did it take you? I did my bathroom cabinets and it took FOREVER! I swore after that I would never paint cabinets again, but of course, some time has passed and now I'm thinking about it again! (:

Okay guys - you CAN do this. It isn't hard. Seriously. It just takes a few days. Use a small sponge roller. Sand, prime and take your time.

Seriously. I am so happy I did it, and hubby was totally against it and I just worked him a little and showed him lots of before and after pictures and he went for it. He is so happy with it now, he can't imagine how it was before.

I love the lightly distressed edges. Plus if your paint chips at all, it wont stand out as much if some of your edges are already revealed. ARe you using a sanding block, mouse sander or Dremmel tool??

I love it!!! My kitchen is the exact same set up as yours and so after my friend Jennie over at "Tuffet" sent me a picture of your island I went out and found a dresser very similar to yours, although I paid $25 for it :) I am excited to get to work on it and if I wasn't renting I would paint the cabinets FOR SURE. Yours ROCK!

I usually just use a sanding block. I tried using the mouse sander once - yikes. I just don't have the control for it, yet. And the dremel would be great - I never thought of that - we NEVER use ours, I should start!

Lilipadella - I am so glad you got a good deal on your dresser! I think I paid $18 for mine. I can't wait to see it!
