A Little Bit of Sanity and A Lot of Chaos: Black and Blue

Black and Blue

Wow. I am so thrilled about these chairs. I mean really. Holy cow. These are just so fun!

So here's how it goes:

Buy two ugly chairs. One with the back caning missing. Yeah. That's pleather. Totally convenient in the 60's. Totally. And it's fantastic with kids...I should have kept it.

Cover chair seats and paint chair slate blue (just like that credenza). Oh, then scuff it up so that when it gets scuffed up while you are working with it, it will be like it was supposed to be that way.

I'm afraid people are going to some day find out that I really have NO IDEA what I am actually doing.

I had to think of what to do with the middle section. So I cut out some left over foam core.

Then stapled the back piece up. And put the foam core in. Make sure that you use a bazillion staples that don't actually go in to the chair. Cause see, it's not one of my projects without some mama llama drama.
Here's the glorious back.

That's the extra. You cut it as close as you can and then shove it into the groove of the back where the caning was attached. And when I say shove, I actually mean gently push it in with a q-tip. Or a scissors or a pliers, or a spatula...whatev.

Then glue the black cord to the back to cover up as many staples as you can. Seriously, I need a stapler that can get into the tiny grooves.

Seriously. These are so stinkin' cute. Glorious.

Lovin the chairs! But hold the phone, back up a step or two mama llama. Are there two back pieces to the back piece? Did you staple the back of the back piece and then cut and staple another piece of fabric to make the front of the back piece? Was there batting involved? Either I need more coffee this morning or I'm just slow. Could be both ;)

LOVE it!!!!!

And You inspire me-
I went to the Salvation Army (who by me is so stinking over-priced-but that is my issue!), and I got two vintage metal school desks for $10 each...(after asking for a markdown-)
My husband said, I will give you fifty NOT to buy them! I said, No way Buddy, just load them in the truck for me...
We'll see...I am thinking Lime green, or something funky with a chalkboard top....

Okay, questions of the day...

1. Where do you buy all of your fabric?
2. When do you leave for NY?
3. Is my magazine in the mail?
4. Why do you live so far away?
5. When can I come visit?

I love ya duck! XOXOXOXOX

Thanks everyone!

aahadley - the back is separate pieces. I stapled the back piece on (front side out), then put the foam core in, then stapled the front piece on and then trimmed with cording and hot glue.

Lori (Ruby Red, cause there are two Lori's) - I am so excited for you! I hope the desks turn out! I think chalkboard on the top would be so fun! I would have paid $10 each. I think that's a pretty good deal! Lime green - ooohhh.....So fun! So jealous! Hubs is in Battle Creek tomorrow!

Katie - SOLD!

Jenn - that's a lot of questions. 1. JoAnn's and a place in my neighborhood. 2. Wednesday 3. Magazine in the mail tomorrow. 4. Ask my hubby...or yours...5. Come next week! Or I could come to you! We could do your kitchen. I found an awesome product to do painting. I'll send you a link. I may post about it after I try it!

Did I cover everyone?? Hope so!

I'm loving that blue! I like seeing it in other's homes {it wouldn't work in mine} and it's a nice change up from white or black.
