A Little Bit of Sanity and A Lot of Chaos: Mom Ramblings

Mom Ramblings

Random thought: As a mom I'm faced with daily dilemmas. Many of you know them: Is it okay for my kids to wear the same underwear three days in a row? How many times a week can I feed my kids macaroni and cheese with pepperoni? Do I have to get down on the floor and play with them every second of every single day? Will they notice if I just lie down and take a nap right here on the floor while they crawl all over me? Can they go one more day without a bath? If I just lie here for a little while longer will they miraculous be able to reach the breakfast cereal/milk/bottles?

Am I the only one? Seriously? Bueller? Bueller?

More momness (just made up that word):

On No-Nap Monday Jack that little turd, spilled an entire bottle of hippo watermelon soap all over the floor. The stuff that comes out the mouth of the hippo and it blinks for as long as you have to wash your hands. It's green. It smells like watermelon. Okay, it smells like what people that make fragrances think watermelons smell like. In actuality it smells like a 12 year old girl's lip gloss that is really just glorified chapstick. Now, I'd love to tell you that this happened in the bathroom where the soap is stored. But it didn't. It happened in the bedroom. How did it get there, you ask? He left his room and went and got it while he was supposed to be napping. HIS BEDROOM CARPETED FLOOR. How come you didn't clean it up you lazy mom, you ask? Well. I will tell you what happens when you try and wash soap out of carpet with water. It makes bubbles. Lots of green bubbles.

Now. THIS is the same floor that has the dog puke rug covering the ginormous blue paint spill. Umm...yeah.

Crap.

And here's how the conversation went:
Porter: Moommmm....Jack spilled.
Me: (Stomping up the stairs. Yep. Stomping. And then smelling. And then gagging. And then throwing up a little from the overpowering smell.)
Jack: (Hiding hippo soap.)
Me: Jack, who spilled on the carpet? (In the nicest tone I have, because seriously, the carpet couldn't get any worse.)
Jack: Baby Gus.
Me: Really? Baby Gus? He climbed out of his crib and came over and spilled soap. Nope. Try again.
Jack: Millie. (The dog.)
Me: Nope. Try again.
Jack: Doggie. (A stuffed animal.)
Me: Nice try. Who really spilled the soap? (Hiding a smile.)
Jack: (Starting to get that devilish grin with that little dimple) Me did it.....
Me: Duh.

And then all the bubbles. I felt like I was in an episode of The Brady Bunch. Specifically the one where Bobby tried to do laundry and soap was pouring out of the washing machine. Cause that would really happen.

Ha! That made my morning! WE also have a nice Ralph Lauren Pebblestone spill on my 14 yr old's bedroom carpet (this is what happens when Mom falls off the ladder while painting and knocks over the can of paint, which conveniently did not have the lid on it!) It is now camouflaged by a black shaggy rug!

OK a couple of things here--FIRST OFF you should post this to my FRIDAY FUNNIES. I just started the party last week, it will be up on Thursdays from here on out (I think it went up Sat this week)and on Fridays I will announce a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner.

Next--my daughter cut her hair--that's how the Friday Funnies started with my post about what do you get when you have combine a 3year old and a pair of scissors--THE MULLET, then I got the funniest e-mails from people--I have never laughed so hard.

LAST-don't ask how I know all of this...I have spilled paint and I have 4 kids. TRY getting an entire bottle of syrup out of your carpet.
The paint, now that it is dry may never come out but if that ever happens again you want to get a wet/dry shop vac or a carpet cleaner from the grocery store immediately and get it up--it will all come up--I stepped off a step ladder with a full can of navy blue paint and you would have never known--we did not have to replace the carpet. The soap--you want to use the same procedure and you want to get it up-if you don't it will get BLACK because soap attracts dirt. Whenever you shampoo your carpets, even though you are already exhausted you should go over the carpets again with clear water to remove the soap and it will keep them clean longer. If you have a shop vac get a pitcher of hot water and begin pouring it over the spot, don't scrub just use the hose and suck it up, pour more hot water and suck it up again and again and again and again...it will eventually all come up. You could try it with the paint and see if it would come up but it may be too late.

Thanks for following me and I will follow you as well.

If there is a stain of color after all the paint is out and all the oxy cleans etc don't work you could try WINE OUT, it is supposed to remove red wine from white carpet.

Thanks Cheri! The paint happened last year and we got a professional wet/dry vac and it didn't come up! Cheapo builder carpets. We were already planning to replace all the carpets anyway, it's now my way of seeing HOW dirty I can get them!

Funny that soap on carpet attracts dirt....soap/dirt - ha!

I tried to shop vac the soap too....nada worked.

I'll try Wine Out.

Thanks!

Sorry!!!
I have been there-I swear!
Yesterday-I had a moment of my own-my semi-potty trained 3 year old walked down the white carpeted stairs with poo plopping off his naked bum so I could help him wipe...
{Can't we just stay in the bathroom and yell for me??!!}
I was making a detailed soup that had to be stirred continuously-needless to say, I had two messes to work out yesterday...
I feel for ya!!!

I'm so sorry, but I'm cracking up over this! This is so how my life goes too! I have a 4 year old and 2 year old & my son is a wild maniac most days. Then, my 4 year old is starting to fib - I can so relate :)

Kirsty, I don't have kids, but I have two cats that gaak in the most conspicuous spots on the lightest rugs. I can relate! (My new wool area rug lives under a plastic tarp when no one else is around.) I loved your chair recover and your kitchen Island! Have a great weekend--I hope you get that nap!

Oh, how I love stories like these !! They make all of us mommies feel better ... that we're not alone (and, of course, provide for great entertainment) !! You've got a great attitude about that ... I'm envious because I don't know that I could've remained that calm, cool and collected !! (And, thanks for leaving such a sweete not about my guest "loo".) Kirsty,
Oh how you make me laugh! Thanks for sharing stories that are so close to my own reality...I'm mom to two wild boys, 3 if you count my husband. You've inspired me to share a little bit more of the chaos that is my life. Thank you and keep up the awesome writing!
