A Little Bit of Sanity and A Lot of Chaos: Busy builders and a coffee table revamp

Busy builders and a coffee table revamp

This morning we went to HD so that the boys could do a project. Home Depot does these fabulous Saturday morning builder workshops for kids. They get an apron, do a project and then get a pin - for FREE! The boys love going!

Seriously, could the BE any cuter?

Now, after moving our entire house around a few weeks ago, we were without a coffee table in the family room. I just happened upon this thing at Goodwill. It was a little more than I wanted to spend. Ha. But, I figured it's real wood and it serves it's purpose, so even if I hate it, I can sell it at a garage sale in the spring. I mean, it was only 20 bucks.

I like the sides and the legs and the bottom shelf, but I'm not crazy about the top. There is some sort of pattern in the wood. And look at those bumpers! Yikes. It look a ton of Goo-gone and some old fashioned elbow grease to remove the residue. So, I finally got all the gunk off the top and sanded it down. I used the Behr paint and primer in one in Black Suede. I haven't decided if I am going to rough up the edges or not. So far the boys are doing a pretty good job with their Hot Wheels cars...

I am a total sucker for all things painted black, so of COURSE I love it! But I'm more impressed that you had the vision for what it could be. I'm more inclined to buy something that's ALREADY black than to paint something, so I'm very impressed!

Looks great! It took some doing to look past those bumpers and see the finished project. Great job! I love the shelf with the baskets.
