A Little Bit of Sanity and A Lot of Chaos: Random Blog Things

Random Blog Things

Okay, so I've had a couple questions about a few random things. So, I thought I would explain. Just things like, "Why Blah, Blah, Blah...for your title?" And, "Why do you sign your name, Kirsty, but I've known you for 550 years as Kirsten?" (Don't worry P.M.H. several people have asked that question.) And, "How do you find time to do all these crafts and projects?" Ooh, and my favorite, "What's a butterfly project?" So here are the answers to those questions.

Why Blah, Blah, Blah....One day, I can't remember where we were, P was listening to someone talk (I think it was his Grandma T.) and she said, "and blah, blah, blah." And P said, "Mommy says that all the time!" And so, in addition to this blog being about many different things, Blah, Blah, Blah..., was born from the mouth of my oldest, very observant son. And yes, I do say "blah, blah, blah" A LOT. I remember my mom pointing that out to me once in high school. That was a long time ago.

So, my name. There are two reasons, really. First, I have never really had a nickname. KB was sort of it in college, but not now. The only people that call me Kirsty are both sides of the family. That's it. So, because at first only my family was reading these crazy little posts about our daily life and what a wacky, obsessive-compulsive mom I really am, I thought it was fitting. Now, with the postings daily about what I really do with my time...fix chairs, laundry, laundry, laundry, don't make dinner for my husband, refab furniture, keep a dirty bathroom, child that won't change out of his spiderman shirt for three days now (night and day, friends, night and day), kids with fingernails longer than Flo Jo...you get the point. (We've always been into home renovation and saving a buck and doing crafty things...now, I'm just writing about it.) So, the name thing. Second, because more people were starting to read the blog (Yeah to my 23 followers!) I didn't know if it was kosher to show the entire blogging world your real name, or not, I only have one stalker so far...so I just left it as Kirsty on my posts. I could change it. But I like it.

Time. I don't really have a lot of time. I pick projects that don't take a lot of time! We go to the Y in the mornings, unless there is a doctors appointment. Then either run a couple errands or come home and play. Then eat lunch. AND THEN, my boys nap. We're pretty strict about nap time and bed time around here. Thing 1 and Thing 2 have a lamp in their bedroom that is set on a timer. They know that they can come out of their room at 6:30 in the morning when the lamp turns on and they can leave their room after naps when their light goes on at 3 pm (unless they have to go potty, then they can get up and go). Now, that doesn't mean that they are always sleeping! But, they cannot come out of their room. They can read quietly or play quietly on their beds, but no leaving their room. When Gus doesn't have a double ear infection and a sinus infection he is a fantastic sleeper and sleeps for three hours in the afternoon, goes to bed at 7 pm and sleeps until 5 or 6:30 am, whichever comes first.

So, that gives me a solid 3 hours in the afternoon to do things around the house. When I was pregnant I napped. Now, for some reason, I can't sit still. I need to work on my yoga breathing and relaxing a little. Maybe tomorrow. Nope, new chair to reupholster....maybe Tuesday...

The "Butterfly Project" term started with Tom. Whenever I get a little antsy about things, he knows it, because he will come home from work and furniture will be moved around, things will be changed, there will be a new $6.99 mirror on the wall. He called me a butterfly one day, always changing things, he said. So, it stuck. And the projects we do around the house are affectionately called, "Butterfly projects". I like to call my furniture projects, "Refabs". Often the things I find were fabulous at one time and are no longer, and I make them fabulous (to me) again.

I love it. I love writing about it, I love when my BFF calls and needs an idea. She's so crafty, I can't believe she would need to ask, I love that this blog has reconnected me to people that I haven't talked to in a long time.

So there you have it!

Good one on Blah, blah, blah - it helps a lot!

We clearly share similar parenting experiences and views.
I've been reading one that I'm hooked on - http://todayscliche.com/.
I have a feeling you'd get a lot out of it.

Incredible job on your blog; keep it up.

Thanks,
Amy
