A Little Bit of Sanity and A Lot of Chaos: An orange desk.

An orange desk.

Yeah. That's right. Orange desk. I love this cinnamon color from Rustoleum. It's just so perfect.

So, I found this desk and a table on CL and offered a deal to take the two. I won. Hurray!

The desk was in okay shape, just needed a little glue here and a screw there. Good and good.

This was the photo on CL, sorry I forgot to take one at home! It was missing a drawer pull, but that was okay, because I knew I could do something with the ones I had at home.

I posted it on Facebook. Do you follow White Butterfly on Facebook? You should. It's fun. I give lots of sneak peeks and share tips over there too.

It was snatched up by one of my favorite ladies and she said,  "Let's paint it cinnamon." And I couldn't say okay fast enough!

I glued and screwed and primed. Then I sprayed with Rustoleum Cinnamon.

I found two ornate pulls from my stash and painted all the pulls ORB (Rustoleum Oil Rubbed Bronze).

After the cinnamon was dry I distressed it in all the right places. Everywhere that you would think someone would bump into it or their arms would rest on it...you get the idea.

Then. Then I took some dark walnut stain and drenched the dresser in it and wiped it off as quickly as I could. The stain dries to a sticky feel quickly and it is hard to wipe off, so I work in sections. I wanted to get stain into all the little crevices so I took some on a cloth (you can use an old t-shirt, a hanky, a rag, whatev.) and I just squeezed the stain into the corners, then dabbed it out.

You want to give the stain about 24 - 48 hours to set. It is sticky to the touch until it dries perfectly.

I put the old pulls on the four outside drawers and the pulls from my stash on the middle drawer. It turned out great. It looks amazing! The wood inlay is gorgeous.

It's been picked up and is at it's forever home. I think I saw a little tear in her eye when she saw it. Oh, and if this doesn't beat a thing - she even brought ME stuff! How great is that!?

I know a lot of people are gasping right now because I painted this piece. But, my thought is this....if you don't love something the way it is, even if it is an antique you are never going to love it. If you will love it and cherish it in your home with a little paint, then paint it. If you don't love it the way it is, but you just can't paint good wood then get rid of it!

Tomorrow I will show you the table that I got with this one!

Kirsty, I love your philosophy. It looks beautiful, and it was relatively ugly to start. If it isn't worth a fortune, why not do what you want with it, right? As my Dad used to say: You do good work!
Have a great day,
Sherry

Wow, it's gorgeous! The Rustoleum Cinnamon alone was a great transformation, but those other details (distressing, drawer pulls) make it even more unique and special!
