A Little Bit of Sanity and A Lot of Chaos: Hutch of my dreams

Hutch of my dreams

Do you have a piece of furniture that, if you could, you would go over your budget and splurge on?

I have one. Eh-hem, had one....

Enter my new hutch.

Funny story....my friend/neighbor and I were taking the day to go and have lunch, venture to Hobby Lobby (it's an hour away) and do some antiquing. On our way to Hob Lob I searched my good ole' Craigslist App and found a piece that I've been dreaming of for a long time and it happened to be in a town on the way to where we were going. It was fate. Serious fate.

So, I called them and on our way back we picked it up...it was practically in a swamp...the area was a little sketchy and the houses were just a tish bigger than this piece...no exaggerating.

The gentleman was asking $150 for it, having nothing to lose, I pretended like I totally knew what I was talking about and offered him $80 and he took it. He got it for free, so really, he was still making money on it. The funny part was that I put $100 in my pocket and gave my accomplice $40. I was going to tell him all I had was a hundred and if he wavered, I would look at my dear friend and beg her for some money...fortunately we didn't need to stoop to trickery....

It needed a bit of work....

And it was dirty and smelly. I used my trusty Mrs. Meyer's cleaner, some fresh air and a good coat of primer to get the stink out. I think I found 27 spiders. And about a dozen spider eggs. Gag....

I primed it and painted the outside white. Then I painted the inside the custom mix of gray and turquoise to get that awesome inside color.

It still had some issues after painting, see how the door doesn't close all the way? So I called in reinforcements...

Not these two yahoos. Although they are good helpers, not exactly what this hutch needed...

Look at those eyes. (Don't look at Gus' messy face...)

I love the inside.

Here are my reinforcements. Hubs and his Dad. Thank you for all your help!

They fixed her right up for me. And now she is complete. (Knobs are from Hobby Lobby.)

She has found a permanent spot in my dining room, where I have made my bed so I can stare at her whilst sleeping on my farm table. A little much? Nah.

Love. Love. Love.

Tell me. What is that one thing that you are willing to go over on your limit if you happened to find it?

Oh, I think you got a killer bargain on that piece!! For sure!! I would have paid $80 in a heartbeat, even though $40 is my limit on just about everything. :)

Answer to above question:
YOUR farmhouse table.

OK. The hutch had limited potential in my soul until I saw how you painted it.

Now. The answer is:
YOUR hutch.

fabulous, what a find, I would be sleeping on a table looking at it too!! My one hug splurge would be on vintage bark cloth shabby rose fabric, if I found it I would buy it!
