A Little Bit of Sanity and A Lot of Chaos: Pay it forward...

Pay it forward...

The boys and I took a trip  down to Ikea the other day. It was a great trip... Until we had been standing in line with our fabulous loot for thirty minutes and we were next to get rung up and I couldn't find my wallet. Anywhere. I had to get out of line and ask a check out clerk where I could park my cart so that my stuff wouldn't get put away while I went and grabbed my wallet from the car. She basically told me she was too busy to help and could have cared less about my small situation. And I was on my own. Fortunately there are other nice people in this world and several offered to help me out and stand by my cart while I ran out side in the 90 degree heat with my three boys to grab my wallet.

I know. Poor me. But seriously. The check-out clerk could have been a teensy bit nicer. Seriously. Thank you to the kind woman that stood by my cart!

Then, we were about 25 miles from home (in Elkhorn of all places! Remember, I'm going there this weekend for the flea market!) And I got a flat tire. Crap. Crap. Crap.

It's hot. Like 90 degrees plus humidity hot....and I've got all three boys sleeping in the back. So I pulled over in a small subdivision along the main road in Elkhorn and started getting the tire changin' stuff out. Now. I've changed a tire before with help. Once. And I've seen people change them...but I've never done it on my own. I was ready for it.

This is becoming a long.....boring.....story. So, a kind man named Mark helped me change the tire. He had to go home and get a crow bar because the spare was stuck under the van, but otherwise it got changed. And we were all drenched from head to toe. Thank you Mark! Maybe I'll see you at the flea market on Sunday!!

Oh and thank goodness for google because I can actually send him a thank you card and gift!

Anyway. It's my turn to pay it forward so a couple of my piece went to this amazing woman that has had a very difficult life. I'm so happy that I could help her out and make her day. I love making people cry tears of joy! Enjoy your pretty new furniture, C.

She loved this piece and so it will now hold her television and a few other odds and ends when she moves to her new apartment.

And this one, an ugly tiny credenza.

Now,

Not an ugly credenza. I spray painted it white (and when I say spray paint, I mean with a can of Rustoleum) and then sprayed the door pulls flat black. I love the look of the pulls. This she will use as a bedside table.

Oh happy day! I have to remind myself daily that among all the mean and nasty people without a heart or soul, there are kind and generous ones out there too. That's why we're here. Be Kind. Do Good. Help Others.

i completely agree with you- pay it forward! i am hopiong to hook up with a local charity this fall and do a room for teens "graduating" from foster care who essentially are thrown into the world on their own. i don't know where to begin yet, but i feel i need to do it.

Some people don't even THINK to pay it forward when someone does them a kind turn, but you did! I love you for it. Sounds like you'd had a ROUGH day. Thank the Lord for the kindness of strangers. :)

AMEN!!! What an awesome (not boring) story. :) So nice of you to give the beautiful furniture to someone who really needed it. Nothing feels better than to make other people smile! This blog post made me smile, so thank you. :D

And now we find out that C is Mark's wife, or daughter, or mom or something like that, right? Just kidding. Great story!

That was great, I read every word, I thought you were going to say you lost your wallet, now that would be a disaster! How nice of you to give the furniture to someone in need!

I love stories where people step up!

I'm glad you found your wallet, and that furniture looks great.

My husband always says "People might not remember what you say, but they'll remember how you made them feel." She'll remember you every time she looks at those pieces, and remember how you made her feel.

The kindness you showed is not a result of others being kind to you, it is because you are simply kind and there are good people in this world, even though we see so much that is not good. Probably doesn't make sense but...
