Here she was a few days ago when I went a little crazy with the sander (see how I took ownership of the mishap there? I'm growing.):
Thanks everyone for the suggestions, by the way. If it hadn't been for my impatience I would have used some of them!
And now. Here she is. All gorgeous and white. Umm....llllooovvvveeee.....
Seriously. Look at those pulls! I didn't touch them. They are original. I love the pull out writing drawers!
Just so you don't think I'm afraid of color:
The inside of all the drawers are slate blue!
And, just so you know that I left a little bit more of the original character:
Yep. My original idea was to sand and stain the top and the writing drawers. Since the top flopped, I decided to still keep the drawers. I love them! I'm so glad I left them instead of painting them white. Now I still have that little bit of stained top that I was looking for!
Oh dreamy antique desk. I adore you.
Oh. Primer - Kilz. Paint - Rustoleum Semi-gloss white. Sanding - 220 grit over the edges. Done and done.
What an awesome desk! I love that you kept the original finish on the writing drawer.
ReplyDeleteReally beautiful Kirsty! Those pull outs are great!
ReplyDeleteThis is great and I like the wood stain left on the pull outs. Somebody didn't know they had a gem in the rough.
ReplyDeletelove and love...
ReplyDelete*drool* I love your desk!! Great job! I can't believe you only paid $19.99... I guess some girls get all the luck! ;)
ReplyDeleteKirsty, this desk looks gorgeous in white. Who needs yucky old dark mystery wood? Happy refinishing!

what a difference some white paint makes! it looks soooo much better and i love that you kept the top surface dark- very sleek and also very practical!
ReplyDeleteWow, this looks so cool. I love how you left the pull tops timber. I just posted a desk makeover too. Feel free to pop by and let me know your thoughts!

GORGEOUS!!! Great find and I love how you transformed it. The peaks of slate blue inside are perfect. Thanks for linkin' up to the POPP.
ReplyDeleteI love the lines of old furniture! I also love to see when old furniture is made modern with paint. Good job!
ReplyDeletehaha, had to laugh at your sander confession :) glad you stuck with it and boy did she turn out a beauty.
ReplyDeleteOh what a great DIY project. You are one clever and crafty girl.
ReplyDeleteI just finished a project that took 23 years to complete.
Come take a peek.
So gorgeous! You did a professional job!
ReplyDeleteDude! This desk is to die for! It looks like something straight from the Pottery Barn catalog! You did a fantastic job!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Love the confession too! We all have those little boo-boos but not all of us have the guts to show them in all their glory! Kudos! :)
Came across your blog from DIY Day at SPTL. Love what you did with the desk! Stained top would have been gorgeous but it looks good either way!!! I always say, it is what it is!! You definitely have a new follower!
