Mom Ramblings #8

1. This is not a mom rambling as much as a blog rambling. I have a big apology to make to many of you. Here's what I didn't know because I'm an idiot. I didn't know you could subscribe and not follow. I didn't know that there were 428 people subscribed to this wacky thing. All I knew about were the 268 that follow! What a fool I am. So, to all of you that subscribe, I am sorry that I didn't know you were here. Okay people, why didn't anyone tell me there is a difference between followers and subscribers? Holy buckets. So, do I have this right: when you follow you also subscribe, but you don't have to follow to read, you can just subscribe and you get automatic updates... so what I'm understanding now is that there are double the people reading that I thought were reading...double the amount of you that make fun of me and laugh at my mess ups and projects and funny things that happen with three boys under 4 and my psycho ways? That's just so crazy. How fun. Now,  I'm totally nervous about spelling and grammatical errors. I don't know what any of this means. Really, I don't, but what I do know is that I love that you are all reading and laughing at me with me. And sharing projects and commenting and asking questions. So thanks.

2. This is just a life rambling: I can't stand when people wear professional sports teams winter coats. There. I said it. It's out there. Unfollow if you want. Seriously, there is something about it that drives me crazy. I don't know why. I am all for team sweatshirts and hats and t-shirts. I have even seen this green and yellow striped car driving around with flags and a helmet on top, and that doesn't bother me as much as a team sport winter coat. Ugghh. I'm a horrible person. Wow. That's me taking a stand.

3. We can't figure out how to get our two oldest kids to sleep in the same room without talking all night long. It's like a sleepover for them. And Jack. Even if we move one of them to the dreaded guest room, he still goes wherever his brother is. Last night they were up until 10 pm. I tried to sleep at 9:30 and they were still messing around. I GIVE UP!

4. I'm afraid nap time for the older ones is soon to be over. What do I do now? QBT (Quiet Book Time)? I need to get things done!

5. Thank goodness summer is almost here. We need to get outside!

6. Someone told me about a job in my previous career path and I thought....nope, I'm good at home....it was a nice feeling to say that I am happy being home with my kids.

7. I just took a ton of stuff to GW. I mean a ton. And it was big stuff like maternity clothes, changing table, swings, baby toys....I guess we're done. Although I couldn't part with the baby clothes....I want another baby.

8. I finished up a couple projects and I can't wait to share them, I just have to fix one thing in the kitchen then I will show you that. I can't wait. I'm so happy with how it turned out. And I haven't done a craft project in awhile. I have one coming up. Stay tuned. It's tiny, but cool. (I just made that up. I've got nothin'. I haven't found anything that I want to craft!) But, I've got an idea!

10. I covered my dining room chairs with vinyl. I'm such a grandma. But seriously, you should have seen them before! Darn boys and their messes. Oh, and I painted them. I love how the black table and white chairs looks.

11. I'm thinking of painting all my light fixtures. Any suggestions? I can't decide between black and brushed nickle...

That's enough.

Hi, you probably don't know about me, because I follow your blog anonymously, to not bring too many viewers back to my blog. (I have too much personal info on it that needs to be changed still). So I love your blog and have quite a few home decor adventure blogs that I follow frequently but anonymously. Does that show up with the subscription? How did you find out about how many subscribers you have, I'm curious.

Anyway, it's fun to see what you create. Now I want to see the chairs with the black table.

Oh, what a great rambling post! Congrats on your followers (I am just one of many :)). Can't wait to see your craft project. And, I am totally there with you on your chair covers...sometimes practicality just has to take over so that you can keep your sanity :)

I love your ramblings...reminds me of what's go on in my own head...just you say it out loud! I think your vinyl seat idea is fan-freakin-tastic. You still get the look of fabric and the pop of color, but those messy grubby boy hands can't ruin the chair! Yeah!

Thanks for pointing out my many flaws Katie! See, so nervous about mistakes now that I know I have all these people that follow! Yikes. I'm hopeless.

Heidi - I know that if you follow anonymously a little head shows up with your name but no info...

I think when you follow you subscribe, but you can subscribe without following. Does that make sense?

I figured out how many subscribers I had by going to my google reader, clicking on my blog so that it pops up in the reader and then clicking on show info...that showed me how many subscribers there are.

(standing up) Hi I'm Anita and I am a subscriber! I have been asking about the difference between following and subscribing for awhile now. I even googled it. When I started using google reader I just subscribed but I guess I could have followed and then I would have subscribed too. Why is this so confusing for me? I'm waiting to get my own blog going then I will follow. Otherwise people might go to my blog that is under construction. Now I'm rambling....you're contagious!

You are refreshing. It is such fun to follow all your adventures.. You have great talent and love for your family that shows in the things that you do.
I have 4 children. Several years ago we had them all in one bedroom while we were building our house. They were little but would stay up and talk and talk and talk.. It drove me NUTS! recently my oldest told me he remembered those days in the tiny apartment when they all talked themselves to sleep and that it is one of his favorite memories. They are getting to be teenagers but they still love chatting away at bedtime. You never know if some of the hardest things to you may just be the most important ones to them.

I love reading your blog! You always crack me up. I am also a member of the "three boys" club, isn't it fun? It has its moments, but boys are just the best! Thanks for sharing so much of yourself with us readers. :)

You have to get yourself over to feedburner to see your actual RSS subscribers, google reader isn't always the most accurate. Plus, you can put a box on your blog that people can subscribe via email as well. {Check out my blog to see what I am talking about.}

Followers aren't subscribers, they're just followers. You can follow someone and then never read them again, but subscribers {to the RSS} are actually {usually} reading what you're writing.

So there you have it.

Oh, and if you haven't done so already and you want a nice picture of how many non-subscribers are reading, head over to statcounter and google analytics and install those as well.

Hope it helps! And I love the rambling too.

I was about to type everything Michelle just said (seriously!). This is my understanding as well. And yes, you want the email subscriber box. Those are the people who get your posts emailed. Whether they read them or not is a different story. The only one I would also consider adding is Sitemeter. Have fun! Love what you're doing here. Go with black. On it's way to replacing ORB which replaced Brushed Nickel. Who decides these things?!

On getting the boys to go to SLEEP when you put them to bed . . . MANY years ago I was staying with a family member for a month due to unforeseen circumstances. SO my niece, 7 and nephew, 6 had to share a room during that time; and they would NOT stop talking, playing, teasing each other. AND awake so late it was impossilbe to wake them up for school the next day.

Since "I" (or my staying there) was the catalyst that caused the problem, I felt I needed to solve it. I would tunr on the hall light and sit on a chair in the hall and read a book until they fell asleep. They wouldn't mess around when I could see them and 'catch them in the act'.

I think we also had 'points' they earned on their chore chart for going to sleep w/o any outbursts; which I realize your boys are too young to do. But, just 'being there' may make them settle down and go to sleep.

OR, could you put one of them down in a different room until they both are asleep, then transfer him to his own bed? Maybe alternate them taking turns at this if it's something they look forward to?

This is my first time reading your blog. Not a follower or subscriber. But I'll be sure to visit again every so often.
