A Little Bit of Sanity and A Lot of Chaos: Mom Ramblings #27

Mom Ramblings #27

1. I'm currently feeling slight pangs of jealousy and competition as I recently heard a boy younger than my oldest son is reading. From real books. I know it's insane, but seriously, my kids are brilliant, he should be reading too. But then reality hit and I realized, if he reads, then he grows up, then he's not my baby anymore, and I don't want him to grow up, because he's my baby.....

2. I don't really care for the current trend of tearing off the covers of books and using them all bundled up as decoration. These are books people! Precious, harmless books full of stories and words and people's hearts and souls. Plus they are selling them at Restoration Hardware for a ridiculous amount - like $30 for a small stack! Sick and wrong. You can go to Goodwill and get a stack for less than $3, if you really must get on that bandwagon.

3. Have I mentioned how fun it is to have readers that leave comments and connect? I'm sorry if I don't get back to you. No excuses...just busy, busy, busy. Just know that I read every single comment and I care deeply that you care enough to comment.

4. No one commented on my first set of questions. Huh. I guess I won't do a question and answer session again.

5. I'm constantly hungry. It happens every year about this time. Right before spring hits. I'm also constantly ready to pick a fight with anyone that comes within three feet of me. Ugh. Winter.

6. I'm torn right now. It's a serious issue too. I have to register the boys for summer school...it's one of those come and get a number then wait around until your number is called types of registration...so annoying, BUT, there is a sale in the next town over and they are selling an ornate 5 x 8 mirror - that's huge. I really want it! I know - what to do, what to do?! Hopefully I'll be done registering before the sale starts.

7. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a toddler bed?

8. I love my turquoise table.

9. All the doors are in. They look fabulous. I'll show you next week. Maybe I'll even start painting the trim again....and I painted my garage door. Again. Does anyone have a part of their home that they absolutely can't stand, no matter what is done to it?

10. I bought this bell. I asked for it for Christmas, but got other fabulous stuff instead, so I bought it for myself. It's on sale if anyone wants one! Click here to copy me.

11. I'm still having such trouble loading photos in this here blogger....anyone else having trouble?

12. Do you ever wonder if you are being a good mother (or father), if you could be doing more? Should I stop painting furniture so I can spend every second with my boys? Do they want me to be with them every second?

13. I live in Wisco. It's total chaos here right now. That is all I am going to say on that matter.

14. I haven't bought any clothes in ages. I think I need to do some shopping. Dad - maybe you could help a girl out?

15. I don't change my mantel every season....I know. I'm a horrible home owner.

16. This is getting to be more of a confession session.

17. I've been running on the treadmill. I hate it. Does anyone else hate running on the treadmill? I can't wait to run outside.

18. I want to paint the new doors a color other than white. Hubs thinks I'm a crazy fool....

19. Gus got out of his crib and crashed on the floor. Now we have a bed tent. But Jack keeps going in there to help him get out. What? Really? Reminds me of this photo:

That makes me laugh. I love looking at old photos. By the way, that yellow duck hasn't left Gus' side. He takes it everywhere. It looks like it's been run over by a garbage truck 77 times.

That is all. Happy Friday!

I have lots of comments on this. I don't change my mantel for every season. I did fall for the first time last year. I usually keep what I got, change for Christmas and back to what I had. I am struggling with am I a good mom right now as well. It's tough. My son will be 13. He has a stuffed duck. He still sleeps with it and wraps it in his green blankie and puts it in the barstool next to him every morning. I have a couple of books missing the covers. One was just missing and 2 they were broken and damaged and it was still hard to pull those covers off. It felt wrong. I can't wait to see your doors. I have done a few posts that get no comments and think hmmmm?

I feel like now I have to answer every question. So you won't feel bad... but I'll pick one. Yes, I hate running on a treadmill. Not a question but I am painting our master bedroom doors, Nomadic desert by SW.

I may not comment on every post, but I do read every post. Just wanted to let you know :)

I don't know how I feel about the books as decoration thing. If they have easy to remove paper covers I think its ok. But actually ruining the outside of a book? Not cool.

I will dislike MANY parts of my new house. From the outdated 1970s half bath, to the tiny brown tiles in the foyer, to the misplaced built-in dry bar next to the fireplace in the family room. Luckily we plan to be in this house for a long time and slowly update all of these things. We close today and I'm sure I will have a laundry list of additional things I dislike... I can share more with you if it will make you feel better! :)

I also love your turquoise table.

Toddler Bed: we used an ikea on that was perfect and cheap, cause they grow out of it so fast. I have four kids under the age of seven and they went quickly to the twin. I gave it away and it went fast. Check them out.

I read your blog every day, but never comment. Mantels - don't hardly ever change mine, except at Christmas. As a mother of 3 adult daughters, believe me, your sons will not be permanently damaged, appear on Dr. Phil in the future, because you chose to paint, decorate or whatever, rather than play with them. (That was a run on sentence.) Heck, one of my daughters doesn't even remember us taking her to Disney World when she was 4. I like you, you keep it real. ALSO, I'm in total agreement with you on the book issue. As a lover of all books and an avid reader, I just don't get it. It's all a little too trendy for me, kind of all white furniture and burlap. Just saying!

I hate running on a tredmill. But it's finally warming up enough here so that I can get outside to run. I'll try to send this weather up north :-)

4. That surprises me! I couldn't think of any questions at the time ... still can't, actually. But why don't you think of some questions YOU want to answer. I love reading the answers. :)

6. Oooh. I want a big mirror like that, too.

9. I hate my laundry closet, even though I recently painted and organized it. Hate it.

11. I have trouble periodically but am not having trouble right now.

12. I wonder this all the time. I comfort myself with knowing that by the time I was my older boys' ages, I hated my mom. And I know my kids love me very much.

15. I don't change my mantel every season either. Maybe when the boys go to college? Nah. Probably not then, either.

18. PAINT! PAINT!

OK, you know me...I want to respond to every one of your ramblings mainly because I just plain want to..it's fun and I think you might smile. If I can make someone smile, even if it's in my mind, then I smile, really big!

But I can't respond to every single rambling right now but I will yell about this...........

T H E B E L L!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously....Kirsty, the bell!!!!!!!!

Just yesterday I pulled a picture of this bell off another friend's blog(Anita at Going a Little Coastal) and put it in our 'new house file' - I fell for the bell ( and you put the link on where to find it *hearts*)

I'll be back later....it's game night here for the boys and I don't play games!

OK....you talked me into it. I rarely comment because I read straight from my google reader and am lazy and don't want to click over to your blog to leave the comment, but you are my absolute favorite blog to follow....so I figure I should show you some love!

1. I can totally understand your pangs of jealousy. I homeschool my brood of almost 6 (although only 4 are school age) and sometimes when I hear of another kid around my kids' age doing something faster than mine...I get all worked up. I constantly have to remind myself that it will happen and no need to rush childhood. You're doing a great job!

7. Why not build one from Ana's site? You're so good at that kind of thing!

12. Yes, I worry about it!!

We never actually used toddler beds for our 2 kids. We went out and got a new queen sized bed for ourselves when our youngest was about 18 months old and used our old bed for him. We have it on the floor for now without a bed frame so that he can't fall out and hurt himself. I did screw the back of his baby crib to the wall as a headboard and really like it. This saves us having to buy larger beds as they become teenagers. Also my husband is over 6ft tall and has serious issues with having a large enough bed (as in he had nightmares about the bed being too small!), so he wanted to make sure the kids had plenty of room to grow.

I don't like the coverless book trend either. It seems wrong. In the same vein, I think my husband's Kindle is wrong too. Books, paper, covers...they belong together! I've been having trouble loading pictures on blogger too.

I guess Kolein already told you about my bell. I bought mine at Tj Marshalls. You know, one or the other. Last summer on clearance. But I just saw it again the other day.

I never used a toddler bed. Mine went right to a twin size. Less stuff to buy.

Run on a treadmill? Oh that is funny. I do however need to get on my bike that hubby call a coat rack.

When my youngest was little he fell out of the cart in Target. It was the loudest thud I ever heard. I could stop shaking. I felt like a horrible mom.

I've been using livewriter and it makes it very easy to load pictures. You should try it.

Have a great weekend!

I love your "mom ramblings." A memorable one for me is the one where you confessed you hadn't showered in three days, haha! I loved it because sometimes I forget to shower, too. Anyway, toddler beds. Even though my kids are not toddlers anymore, I am dying to make this one for my daughter's room, to be used like a "reading nook":

I catch up on your Blog every few days - always like to see what you are up to. You are such a great writer - very interesting read. The tearing of books is just wrong to me - I dearly love reading (when I'm not painting or re-doing something that is!) and to 'deface' a book is just not right. The bell? Have had a brass bell like that one for years and sprayed it brushed nickel - love it now! Don't have a mantle....... And I dust my treadmill about every week or so. I have a brass looking shower door trim - hate that. Have been looking into painting them - been reading a lot about that lately. I've never commented on any of your writings - don't know why, just haven't. Love your Blog tho....you are a great inspiration to me.

I so love your blog posts. I totally get the reading jealousy thing...I was all freaked out because my baby wasn't reading before kindergarten (hubby and I both did) and her friends did, but then I thought, she's younger than them. By at least 4 months. And, she's reading now, it's not like she's going to be a functionally illiterate adult (she started reading about Dec of kindergarten, and she is literally the youngest kid in school, born on the cutoff date).

Also, WHY would anyone destroy a book? WHY!? W-H-Y!?! They are SACRED!

Aren't kids together in cribs so much fun? I'm always torn between worry (that they'll break the crib between the 80 pounds of them) and total grinsville because they're so cute, look, big sis climbed in to keep little sis company because mom couldn't yet be bothered to spring her.

Keep painting, anything that you can do as work that fulfills you and is flexible enough for you to be home for their important moments will only be for good. As long as they are far from the spray paint :)

Great random list. I'm curious why you are having trouble loading pictures into Blogger. I don't have any trouble, beyond it taking a few seconds to load (but no different than it always has).

Back to the list - I seem to only be able to change up either my mantel or my sideboard - not both. Who knew.
